about us

We exist to help anyone affected by press abuse and to educate the public on media standards.

Press abuse often affects people at their most vulnerable moments, such as intrusion after a tragedy which had been a newsworthy event.

It can also destroy people's livelihoods, when inaccuracies damage a person's reputation or that of their business.

In other cases, people have been falsely accused of wrongdoing in the media, or have had their privacy violated.

Press abuse doesn't just affect individuals, either - groups and communities can find themselves the victims of discrimination in the media.

The Press Justice Project & Hacked Off

The Press Justice Project (PJP) was established by a former Board Director of Hacked Off, the campaign for press freedom and accountability. The PJP continues to work with the campaign where it is in the charity's own interests to do so, benefiting from access to Hacked Off's resources, expertise, and personnel.

The PJP and Hacked Off share the aim of protecting members of the public from media abuse. Although they work closely together, the two organisations are constitutionally independent and have their own objectives, projects, and governance arrangements.
